thesis midterm

North Park is a rapidly densifying neighborhood in San Diego CA with a lack of growth in infrastructure. With this void, the project aims to create a public park that can transform to serve multiple community needs. Taking into account the surrounding context of a farmer’s market and a large consumer-based urban format, this project explores how the environment of the ‘market’ could challenge the perception of public space. This exploration challenges how the consumer’s preferences towards ‘markets’ could enhance  public spaces. This is a key factor in reactivating nodes of the city in a more integrative manner. In addition, the project explores ways in which the inner space of these markets could dictate the users’ behavior that could shape a sense of civilness, collective entrepreneurship and alternate ways in which the community spends free time.
